Like everything else, cars have evolved significantly. Modern vehicles, especially those made after the 1990s, come equipped with advanced safety mechanisms to protect against theft and carjacking. If your car has a transponder key, it can become damaged, malfunction, or stop working altogether.
If this is your issue, call America’s Lockout Service at (661) 421-5257.
This added security feature, also known as a chip key or smart key, combines the functions of a transmitter and responder. It’s a small chip embedded in the upper part of the key, encased in plastic, that communicates signals with your car. This simple yet effective technology significantly reduces the risk of vehicle theft.
What are transponder keys?
Car keys that contain a chip are transponder keys—an added layer of security designed to verify ownership and prevent theft. The chip embedded in the key transmits a signal that allows the car to start only when recognized.
If the correct signal isn’t transmitted, the car won’t start.
As effective as this technology is, it has its flaws. Frequent drops or impacts can damage the chip, rendering the transponder inactive.
Before you face such a frustrating issue, call the locksmiths at America’s Lockout Service to schedule a programming appointment or have your key programmed on-site.
Types of transponder programming key service
There are two types of transponder key programming locksmiths use: in-car transponder programming and remote programming.
In-car transponder key programming offers numerous options, as some transponders cannot be programmed without being inside the vehicle.
Programming without an existing key: If the transponder key requires programming using an existing key, a qualified locksmith must assist you. Our locksmith will access your car to retrieve the code via the receiver. This code is then copied onto a blank, never-before-programmed key. We can also erase and reprogram your old key.
Remote transponder key programming
Similar to keyless entry systems, some transponders can be programmed remotely, without the car. This method isn’t suitable for all vehicles and carries some risks, but only a qualified auto locksmith can ensure success. The locksmith interacts with your car’s computer system to verify proper function.
While we can fix the transponder remote, we require your car’s location so the locksmith can complete programming.
Why choose us?
We are fully qualified with the technical expertise to program transponder keys. We advise customers to provide their car’s model and year so we can prepare accordingly. Programming a transponder key is quick, but duplicating one for future use takes extra time.
